One of the most famous cities in the country, Oakland is a cultural phenomenon worth exploring. The Town, as it's known, is considered the little brother to San Francisco. With far more uniqueness to the landscape, however, it's a much more vibrant community than many others in the Bay Area. 
 

Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping


Oakland offers many delicious eateries in a wide variety of cuisine types. Try Fentons Creamery when you desire something sweet or Trueburger when you want classic American fare. Mua is an ideal establishment for small plates and cocktails while enjoying live music.
 
Burma Superstar is another possibility. When you're craving Burmese noodles, rice, and meat dishes, this is the place to explore. They provide covered outdoor dining so you can enjoy your meal while you people watch. 

Scott's Seafood Grill & Bar is yet another upscale eatery in town. Enjoy a wide assortment of fish-focused fare paired with impeccable wine selections or unique cocktails. Their menu selections change with every season. Spend time relaxing after your meal in the Red Room Lounge or experience waterfront dining on the docks for an unmatched view.

When you're eager to shop, visit the Lincoln Square Shopping Center. It combines various storefronts inside with an outdoor seating area ideal for relaxing between stores. You can also head to the nearby towns of Alameda or Emeryville, where more luxurious shopping destinations await you.

Things to Do


The first thing to do is visit Lake Merritt. It offers a significant draw for residents and tourists alike. The only saltwater lake that's naturally occurring, this area also acts as a wildlife refuge. It's an ideal spot for nature walks or picnics and spans three miles along the shoreline.

The Gardens at Lake Merritt are a beauty to behold in itself. It's also the site of the Autumn Lights Festival. The tranquil destination spans seven acres, giving you ample time to explore and take in all the beauty around you.

The famous Fox Theater is also located in Oakland. The historic building houses a live music venue, bar, restaurant, and even an art school. You can also explore Oakland Arena, which doubles as a concert venue and basketball arena home to the Golden State Warriors.

For another look at the city's history, explore the Oakland Museum of California. Art and science also take precedence here, with lots of interactive exhibits. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday.

Oakland California Temple is one of the city's largest church structures. Even if you don't plan on attending, the site is well-favored in town thanks to its beautiful landscape design, on-site water fountain, and lit-up trees and pathways that make the entire place picturesque.
